Nomenclature

The Nomenclature Committee focuses upon the terminology used to describe the wide variety of cannabis medicines available. We are currently researching the various methods of naming plant medicines from sources around the world. Our effort is to create a standardized language which will be used to better inform our patients about the medicine. By allowing our patients to make better choices, we can better protect their health and provide medicines that are familiar from region to region.

We are currently working on four objectives:

  1. Define proper classification names for the various types of cannabis medicines. [WPM][IPM][EPM]
  2. Develop standardized naming guidelines for cannabis medicines. [WPM][IPM][EPM]
  3. Develop packaging standards for cannabis medicines. [WPM][IPM][EPM]
  4. Develop labeling standards for cannabis medicines. [WPM][IPM][EPM]
