Safe Handling

The Safe Handling Committee is focused primarily upon best practices –how cannabis medicines are produced, stored, transported, and distributed. Our goal is to develop clean, safe methods of providing medical cannabis to patients, while minimizing the risks of contamination and product spoilage. As more data becomes available through the work of the other committees and the larger scientific community, this committee works to design processes that better protect the health of our patients, the community and the environment.

We are currently working on five objectives:

  1. Develop safety and handling protocols, dosage management, and training curriculum for methods used to grow whole plant medicines. [WPM]
  2. Develop safety and handling protocols, dosage management, & training curriculum for methods used to produce ingestible plant medicines, in accordance with local & state health regulations. [IPM]
  3. Develop safety and handling protocols, dosage management, and training curriculum for methods used to produce extracted plant medicines. [EPM]
  4. Develop standards for safe and sanitary handling procedures of cannabis medicines at dispensing collectives, from the point it is received until dispensed to patient. [WPM][IPM][EPM]
  5. Develop guidelines for safe and sanitary handling of cannabis medicines after they are received by the patient. [WPM][IPM][EPM]
